| If think, that you hear and read all, whats is possible in metal music ... you wrong. Of course, you can close your mind in old albums great masters, but lost you satisfaction of listening brutal music. We must still discovered new bands, and support they in travel on metal world, because this is our mission. Mission all metal maniax! We can't leave on voices and visions of history. If not, you still be hungry! Skowron: Hail Erik! First you must say us, what’s new in camp of PREJUDICE? I think that you don’t stop only on release you new album title "Reality"? Erik: Hiyah, no, we won’t stop at "Reality". We go on as we were doing so far. For the moment we are verry busy making the new songs for the next album "Dominion Of Chaos". | |||
| S: OK., new album is on the scene few months, and I must first congratulation you and rest band, becouse you give all maniax of death metal music, really great stuff. You are band with big potential, I think..... E: Thanks, the album is out since the end of 2001 now, so that’s more than a few months, but since we have no label the distro goes verry slow. That’s why some country’s got it only since a couple of months. We do the best we can and play the way we like it and, more important, what we like. It's great to know people enjoy what we do and we'll try to keep on going for as long as we can. | |||
| S: You know, be good that you say all fans, how be when you start? What’s idea compel us to found band like PREJUDICE? That’s only love, love to the brutal music he he?! E: Well, you have to love the music in the first place and also have to be verry dedicated to do and keep on doing this. That’s the only way to survive. | |||
| S: You start play in 1993 year, but you still stay in deep underground. With potential like your, many labels must wants release albums of your band. Maybe I’m mistake, but.... E: There are a lot of people telling us this, but labels seem to be a little frightenend by us. I think the music we make is too complicated for them and that scares them away. Also a big thing is that we already went trough so much shit that we don't sign so easy and know exacltly what we want to have in a contract. Anyway, it just so happened that we've signed a couple of weeks ago with Painkiller records for the next album. | |||
| S: In the past, you have many changes in your aligns. Why this people stop play in PREJUDICE? They be traitors of death metal music and begin play something melodic and fucking popular? Or maybe they need most popular band, who’s sleep on the money? E: The guys that are ex members all din’t qualify anymore, so actually none of them quit by himselve. One of the bassplayers did, but that was because he had personal stuff that was more important to him. Now, the drummer dit quit for 3 weeks in janurai '03 on a personal reason, but he's back with us. | |||
| S: Do you still in contact with theirs? E: Yeah, we still have contact with some of the ex members. Most of all with Yves, the ex vocalist. He also comes to gigs and stuff when he gets the chance and helps out when he can. | |||
| S: I see that you are band who’s like play shows. Whether this condition is only accidental, or maniax really know that you play always very good and sick shows? Do you like play live, and go on tours? E: Yep, we are a live band in the first place. I think we got as much name for the shows as we do for the music. We hate bands on stage that just stand there playing their stuff without a show. People pay entrance to see something and have fun, otherwise you can also stay at home and put the cd on. That’s why we always try to make a great show of it and let the people have fun with us. | |||
| S: Some time ago, I have hope that you play in Poland too, becouse in 2000 year you have tour in Europe with GODLESS TRUTH, but you avoided my country. Why you still don’t play here? E: I guess that’s just because we don't have enough contacts with the Polish underground. If you don’t have the contacts it’s hard to make a tour, and it’s a little bit too far for us to come over for just one gig. As i said before, we have no label, so we have to pay for the whole tours ourselves. | |||
| S: Like metal heads react on PREJUDICE in rest of Europe? They like your music? How response you have west Europe? E: Ah, it’s the same everywhere. Some people like it and some people hate it. You can’t do good for eveybody. We make the music we like and if someone likes it, it’s ok. If someone doesn’t, it’s also ok. We don’t force them to listen to it. But, as far as i know of, we’ve got a lot of fans in Europe. So there is nothing to complane about. By the way, if someone should be interested in getting the newsletter, just send a mail to erik_prejudice@hotmail.com with your name, country and the e-mailaddy it should be sended to. | |||
| S: Probably you want play on some tour in USA? I’m right? Whether you have chance in the future play there? E: Normally we would have been there in januari ’03 but some gigs got cancelled and so it became (again) too expencive for us to do it. Too bad, but there will come an other day. I’m sure of that. For me, i think Japan is better for us to play. Maybe we'll get there some day also. | |||
| S: In Poland you are in distribution in Empire Records. Whether Mariusz Kmiolek boss of this label propose you deal? Or maybe this is only friendly distribution? E: I guess it’s only friendly, ‘cause i didn’t hear anything about a contract in Poland. I can be wrong about this one because normally it is the part our drummer should take care of. But i’m sure he would have let us know if we had an offer for a deal. | |||
| S: In Europe release us Painkiller Records. Do you satisfied of their work for us? Who promote us in USA? E: We didn't had a real contract with Painkiller Records for the Reality album, but he helped us out and any help is welcome if you have to do everything by yourselve. For America there is, as far as i know, no label for the promotion. The cd gets there slowely spreaded by the fans i guess. Dominion Of Chaos will get a better promotion and distribution now we are signed by Painkiller. | |||
| S: Say me now Erik, whether you are demon? I ask becouse you have very deep and sick voice. I like this very much! E: Hahaha, do i look like one? Thanks anyway. Normally i only did backings but with the departure of the former vocalist i took over to have someone for the firstcomming time and i kept on doing it ‘cause everyone likes it, so it seems. | |||
| S: You play technical music, but you are still brutal band. I find in your music some melodic lines. Where is your prescription on good album, and of course fucking brutal sound? E: I think the main part is that we all listen to differend styles and kinds of music. That results in a differend vieuw of every member. So if we make the songs everyone puts in his own opinion ‘cause everyone makes his own parts. If it sounds good, we keep it, and otherwise we save it for later in another song or delete it out of our memorys. We are with 5 members and all five of us decide if we use a piece, comming from any instrument within the band, or not. That is, i guess, what keeps our music the way it should be. If all the music was written by only one, it starts to sound verry simular after a while and boring for the other guys to play. Now it’s formed through 5 as one. | |||
| S: You record in Art. Sound Studios. In upshot you have dirty sound. How you think, whether this sound can be more clear, more explicit? E: I don’t think it isn’t clear enough, i think it’s too clean at some points. That takes away the brutality. The album didn’t achieve the quality we did expect from it. If you hear the rauw mix, it sounds more brutal and just as specified as the endmix. I don’t know what went wrong, but i guess it was because we started to run out of our budget. Some parts took us too long to get them right on the tapes. That won’t happen next time. | |||
| S: Logo for us make Szpajdel. Where you known him? This is one of big polish maniax. E: We know him because of our former vocalist. He asked him to make the logo and name for Prejudice. Before we had an other way of writing the name because the music was more trashy and we also didn’t had a logo. I guess everyone in the metalscene here in Belgium knows him, because he’s at almost every underground concert there is over here. | |||
| S: OK. bro. About what’s you write in your texts? I know that I can read this, but I want know your look on this. E: Most of the time i write about stuff that keeps me busy at that time. Sometimes it’s something that is in the news, something it’s something that happened to me or someone i know. I always try to get as close as i can to give some possible solution to it, but also always try to make it so that it can be taken in different ways. That sometimes results in simularity, but i try to avoid that as much as i can. I never use new lyrics. If i write one, it stays where it is for a couple of months and if it’s still strong and good after that period, i start using it. | |||
| S: Now we have new year. All best for you and band bro. What’s you want do in narest future? E: All the best for you to bro. We won't do so manny shows this year because of the work we have with the new songs, so this year it's gonna be a bit silent around the band. But for the end of the year we hope to bring out the new stuff and go back on tour as soon as possible. | |||
| S: You have compose some new songs? E: For Dominion Of Chaos we're still not done writing, but from the stuff that's ready at the moment you can expect the songs to be faster and more brutal, but still with the same groove, technique and chaos. | |||
| S: OK. That’s all for now my bro. Now you can say what’s you want to polish but not only maniax. E: Ok, first of all, thanks for the intie and the support. We hope to get the chance one day to come over to Poland and give you guys and girls a hell of a show. Be prepared and bring along your friends than, so we can make a great, memorable evening of it. Greets, Evil E. |
