| 1. I seem to remember having read something about line-up changes in the band. Can you tell us something about the latest developments in the Prejudice camp? That's right but not lately, it's more than a year ago that we had a line-up change! Our former guitarplayer Woody was replaced because of musical differences & other opinions that even haven't got anything to do with the band. Tuni replaced Woody in Dec.'99. He played in bands like NECRODOCHION (rip) brutal deathmetal, PROTOMYSTA (rip) furious black metal. When Tuni joined the band we had to do a European tour with GODLESS TRUTH (CZ), so it was not easy for him, i guess. But that was the best test for him to see if he liked it or not, but he liked it a lot! We did some mini tours in Italy & Czech R. For the rest we are busy with the second album "REALITY". That will be recorded in the summer, from the 14th july untill the 05th of August. In November we will do a full tour through Europe to promote our new album! | |||
| 2. Your new album is about to see the daylight. Where did you record it en how did the recordings go? It's not recorded yet! It will be recorded in the ART SOUND REC. in Houthalen, Belgium. It's really a nice studio, This time the production must be better then "BROKEN Promises", but with this studio it can't go wrong! We'll keep you updated! | |||
| 3. What can we actually expect from this new album? More brutality and more groove It will be more technical than the Broken Promises album!! This album will be more brutral deathmetal with lots of groove, yeahh baby yeahh :-) I don't think people excpect this from us, wait untill you hear the brand new songs for the 3th album That's the most brutal stuff we ever have written!! Fucking grinding!! | |||
| 4. The art-work for you new one shows very much resemblance with the work of Kris Verwimp or am I mistaking? What do you think of his work? Is it that obvious that you see it's from Kris (-Judge : yep)? Because it is from Kris, he did a great job for us. He also did our demo "Jaundiced eye", real killer artist. He's a really cool guy too. We knew exectly what we wanted for the artwork for our new album. | |||
| 5. Do you think ther's such a thing as a typical Belgian (death) metal sound? Mmhh, yes & no, do we sound like a Belgian death band? We do not sound like a American band, I know that. But that's not what we want, we want to be proud that we are from Belgium, also the scene out here is SHIT!!!! (sorry) | |||
| 6. Your lyrics aren't typical death metal poetry filled with blood, guts and other gore stuff, neither are they depressive, complaining lyrics. To me it seems that your lyrics are more focused at today's society (and criticises it). Is this done intentionally and don't you fear that this might scare off potential fans among the metalheads? Do those lyrics help you to connect more easily with the hardcore and punk kids than a regular metalband? Erik & I (Def), we spend a lot of time and effort on our lyrics. We write about things that we are interested in. Some are political some are about the regular things in life. We don't want to preach with our lyrics, everbody takes the songs like they want and uptill now we are only getting possitief reactions concerning our lyrics, so thats cool for us. Hard-core lyrics are more about respect & stuff, and very critical towards some organisations. We have also some critical lyrics towards some things, but that's our opinion, if you don't like it, so be it. That's us! 90% of death-metal is about horror & stuff, it's not so evident for us to also preach about that stuff, everbody does what he likes. But that's always gonna be a typical thing for PREJUDICE!! | |||
| 7. How is your music created? When someone comes up with a good riff, how do you remember it (do you write down how it was played, do you tape everything, or do you just have a very good memory)? It's all in the mind, nothing more mothing less!! We don't write anything on a paper, we rehearse for about 3 or 4 times in the week!! That's how we do the stuff. Tuni & I (Def) are the most important songwriters, sometimes our drummer has a drumfill & then we put a guitarriff on the fucker. It's that simpel! We always write with 4 man. Our vocalist is the last person who gives the final touch to a song. We always write for about 3 months on one song, everything has to be perfect. | |||
| 8. Your music doesn't seem aal that simple. Do you consider yourselfs as being good musicians? Pff, I don't know, we know that we can find our way on our instruments. There are much better mucicians than we, but we don't stare our eyes out at them. We know our good things, but also our bad shit :-)) | |||
| 9. On "Broken Promises" there was a sparadic use of keyboards. Personally I think that your music can do with out that. Will we hear keyboards on the new stuff too, and how important are they for the band? Yeah you're right, the most people have the same opinion as you do, but in the past we wanted to do something else then the regular death-trash bands. Erik was normally our fulltime keyb.-player but he became the leadvocalist after Yves left the band! On the Broken Promises album it was a regular thing for us the use key's, some music parts could fit with some key's, so why not. But with the new songs it's impossible, the songs are full of structure. To much changes. So it's not nessecery to put some key's on it. Only one song on the Reality album will have a small keys part, but is't not that disturbing!! For all the other new songs the keys are fully gone!! | |||
| 10. You guys are from the area around Genk in Belgium. Are you satisfied with the scene and the number of metalfans in Limburg? Pffff, the metalscene in Limburg suck's big time, it's totaly a dissaster in Genk, they are extincted! But that does not mean that there are no good bands! Some bands that are pretty cool are: Culpable Homicide, Emeth, Last funeral (They have a new name??), Exterminator. Sometimes it's not that bad for playing in these parts, sometimes you have a full club. Oh well, it's the same as everywhere. Once there was a fucking great band in Limburg called CHEMICAL BREATH, they were heroes to me, so much control over their instruments & such good songs. It realy sucks that they are gone!! Rest in peace guys, the band i mean! | |||
| 11. The one and only real metalband that Hoeselt ever knew (as far as I know), Death's Bride, recently throwed the towel in the ring. Any comments? It was a really good death band, but why did they stop, because of their drummer? I think that was the reason, not? So if those are reasons to quit, than we had to quit years ago!! We did a couple of shows with them, and it was very cool, great guys. But with the loss of their first vocalist, they lost a big thing in Death's bride, a good frontman & singer!! So that's the way it goes, bands come and go! But for us it's not over yet, we have so many plans for in the future, so look out for it! | |||
| 12. Have you allready performed in other countries, and if you do, how was it? It's very differend than playing in Belgium, the shows are more organised, way better then Belgium. Over there they tread you as a band and not as scum that will play for some beers & food!! They have a totally different mentallity over there. We did a lot of touring in different country's in Europe, the reactions of the people are more intens than the audience here. They really support you, there is always a fucking mosh-pit in the front. The first experience we had with a show in Italy, we played before 350 people and the bands that played were just us & a supportband!!! They have so much fucking respect for bands out there, you could not believe that. Some bands that allready played in some other countries will tell you the same. | |||
| 13. Suppose : the members of Prejudice can select the bands for the Graspop festival (and old bands are willing to do a reunion just for your festival). What would the program look like? Hope that this will happen some day! CRYPTOPSY, DYING FETUS, SUFFOCATION(rip), PREJUDICE, MORBID ANGEL, MERAUDER, DEEDS OF FLESH, INCANTATION, IMMOLATION, MESSHUGGA, STUCK MOJO, EMINEM, DR. DRE, FLESHLESS, SKINLESS, SEVERE TORTURE, POLLUTED INHERITANCE, SEPSISM, INTERVALLE BIZZARE, SACRED SIN, CADAVERIC CREMATORIUM, AGATHOCLES, ICED EARTH, ECT...... I'll could go on for pages & pages, but i don't want to disturb you with this shit. But these are the main bands that we had in mind! | |||
